Lisa Woolery
Hello All! I joined the board of Mid-America Dharma in the Spring of 2020. My interest in joining the board stemmed from my gratitude for, and desire to help further the work of Mid-America Dharma: providing Buddhist retreat opportunities in the region including events led by prominent national Vipassana teachers. I consider the mission an important one because it provides people affordable access to Buddhist retreat experiences that can be prohibitively expensive, especially when more extensive travel is required to get to a retreat. I currently live in Des Moines, Iowa but started practicing Buddhism in 2013 in Kansas City at the Temple Buddhist Center at Unity Temple on the Plaza. Professionally, I work for the School of Education at Iowa State University as a Research Analyst and hold a doctorate in Developmental Psychology.

As a new board member, I welcome the opportunity to introduce myself. I live in the greater Kansas City area, and my local sangha is with Temple Buddhist Center and Robert Brumet. In 1996 I began practicing Insight Meditation with the intent to ease my personal stress. Over time, I have found that my intent has expanded to include personal growth and the well-being of my community. In working with Mid America Dharma I hope to contribute to making the retreat experience easily accessible to all.
Welcome Lisa and Linda!
There are still openings for board members. If you are interested please email Lucy Freeman.
